Tree Removal North Shore
Removal of dead, dying or unwanted trees across the North Shore, from a single camphor laurel in a Chatswood back garden to a tall blue gum leaning over a Killara roofline.
Most trees we take down on the North Shore can't simply be felled. The block is steep, the house is close, a sandstone retaining wall sits below the drop zone, or the canopy reaches a power line. So we climb from the top and section the tree in pieces, lowering every limb on rope before it touches the ground. The crew walks the block first (access path, rigging anchors, the angle of the lean and where the chips will go) before the first cut happens.
Older residential streets in Mosman, Willoughby and Lane Cove typically offer a narrow side gate, a brick wall on one side, established planting on the other, and a steep drop out the back. We work within that. Sometimes we crane a section over the roofline. Sometimes we barrel chunks of trunk down a path and chip them at the front. The plan is always driven by what the block actually is, not what a phone quote assumed it would be.
Once the canopy is cleared and the trunk is down, we chip the smaller material on site, cut heavier rounds into manageable pieces, and rake or blow the property clean before leaving. Stump grinding is a separate line on the quote, take it on the same visit or leave it for later. If you're planning to repave, lay turf or put in a new bed straight after, having it done in the one visit works out cheaper than a return callout.

When you might need this
- → A garden gum has outgrown the block and shades the house all day
- → Roots are cracking sandstone steps, paving or a retaining wall
- → A storm has split the trunk and the tree now leans
- → The canopy is touching a power line or service drop
- → Constant leaf and bark drop is blocking gutters and drains
- → Council has approved a removal permit and the tree needs to go
- → A renovation or rear extension needs the footprint cleared

Tree Removal FAQs
What does a North Shore tree removal usually cost?
A small backyard tree under six metres on flat ground sits in the $300 to $650 range. A medium gum on a typical Chatswood or Gordon block runs $900 to $2,000. Anything over twelve metres, on a steep block, near a house or over a heritage wall is $2,200 and up depending on access, rigging and whether a crane is needed.
Can the crew reach a tree through a narrow side gate?
Usually yes. Our small chipper and walk-behind stump grinder clear a 900mm gate, which covers most older North Shore homes. If the path is tighter, we walk it on the quote visit and work out the alternative, crane over the roof, hand-balling chunks through, or accessing via a neighbour if both parties agree.
What happens to the timber once the tree is down?
Small branches and prunings go through the chipper on site. You can keep the chip for the garden, have it spread, or pay to have it carted away. Larger rounds of blackbutt, turpentine or angophora can be cut and stacked along the fence for firewood if you want to keep them.
Do you handle trees touching power lines?
Anything within the regulated clearance zone around an energised line has to be made safe by the distributor before we climb. Ring their faults line and they will isolate the network. Once the wires are confirmed dead we can section the tree. We work out the timing with you so the power-off window is as short as possible.
